Tomoe Hikita, Ich und Eichhörnchen, 2024, mixed media on canvas, 50 x 40 cm, unique work, € 900
In Tomoe Hikita’s works, imagined figures, limbs, creatures, and plants form connections in new amorphous silhouettes. In this process, Hikita is searching for constellations and forms—or rather deformations—that manifest complex feelings of closeness, affection, and exuberance, but also withdrawal and discomfort. In her annual edition Ich und Eichhörnchen (Me and Squirrel), body parts, animals, and trees intertwine in a fast-paced round dance.
Tomoe Hikita (b. 1985 in JP) is an artist. Hikita was recently awarded the Debutant Prize of the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg and has shown her work at Hinterconti in Hamburg, the Kunstverein Freiburg, and Galerie Kreis in Nuremberg, among others. Forthcoming solo exhibitions are planned to take place at z2o in Rome and Oechsner Galerie in Nuremberg in 2025.
