Helmut Kirsch „Unsere Schöne Welt erstickt im Plastik: Plumeria Obtusa”, 2025, Oil and varnish on canvas, print, plastic bag, 50 × 50 cm, Unique, 1.800 €

Helmut Kirsch’s practice encompasses music, painting, video installations, and sitespecific works, through which he continuously explores the interplay between space and perception. By combining geometric forms with experimental visual approaches, he creates complex overlays. Kirsch also works with digital media, with particular interest in the moment when different image layers intersect, and color and materialities overlap. Sketches and preparatory drawings are central to his artistic process, offering insight into his approach. The plastic bags used in the series “Our Beautiful World Suffocates in Plastic” come from the packaging of the magazine Camera Austria, which Kirsch has subscribed to and collected for many years. In combination with macro photographs of blossoms, these works address questions of environmental pollution while offering a new perspective on seemingly ordinary objects and surroundings.

Helmut Kirsch (*1949, Schwabach, Germany) lives and works in Nuremberg. In recent years, his work has been shown in solo exhibitions at Kunstverein Kohlenhof, Nuremberg; “Kunst im Fluss” in Hersbruck; and MUK in Zirndorf. In 2015, his work was also presented in Urbino at the Collegio Raffaello, as well as in Berlin and Budapest. He has released several music albums under the aliases “freiton” and “A NO NYME.”
