We are delighted to introduce Edie Duffy as the 31st Marianne Defet Painting Fellow. Beginning in September, she will live and work in Nuremberg for five months as part of the fellowship.
Duffy’s practice centres on the meticulous translation of images sourced from online marketplaces into paintings. Working with photorealistic precision, she isolates these pictures from their economic and functional contexts, revealing the experiences of loss, transition, and exchange embedded within them. Her work considers the social relations involved in the production and circulation of images through sustained attention to their form.
The residency will culminate in a solo exhibition opening at the end of the year, featuring new works developed during her stay in Nuremberg. Alongside the exhibition, an artist publication will be released.
