Felisha Carénage uses performance and expanded painting, wrecking gender, race, language and nationhood using play, noise and bacchanal; the carnivalesque. Sharing documentation of recent performance pieces in her lecture, she considers elements of civic engagement, artistic research and emotional labour in the execution and reception of her work with practitioners of a transatlantic performance art form. In unpacking the Creole legacy of literature, music and movement that informs her approach, she asks: can spectacle accommodate refusals of representation?

Recent commissions by Felisha Carénage took place at KW Institute for Contemporary Art (as part of BPA// Berlin program for artists) and GHB Space in Berlin, Gesellschaft für Aktuelle Kunst in Bremen, as well as Wereldmuseum Rotterdam and Van Abbemuseum in the Netherlands.

In collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg and Kunstverein Nürnberg – Albrecht Dürer Gesellschaft, the 2026 edition of Flock focuses on socially engaged, community-based artistic practices. Drawing on discourses around commons and care, it presents positions that foster encounters and address questions of participation, publics, and responsibility.

Flock VIII with Felisha Carénage includes a presentation at Kunstverein Nürnberg – Albrecht Dürer Gesellschaft as well as studio visits at the Academy of Fine Arts, Nuremberg. Interested students can register by email with Anna-Lena Rößner: roessner@adbk-nuernberg.de.
