Lilli Lake, code exhale, 2024, wood, paper, strings, fabric, pencil, charcoal, 26 x 18 x 3 cm, 2 unique works, € 600 (€ 900 for the set)
Based on the work hallmark realized at the Kunstverein Nürnberg, which takes up the lament of women’s groups as an act of wordless resistance and examines paralinguistic expressions—such as sighing—as collective expressions of solidarity, code exhale explores the phenomenon of phonetic aspiration. The work uses the letter “h” as an acoustic breathing code: framed by the strings of a zither, the “h” appears in a sequence that is inscribed into the surface of the material as both an echo and signature. This is combined with drawings of sighing female figures, including the mourning Niobe from Greek mythology, who is transported to the top of Mount Sipylus by the wind, Mary Magdalene, and Dore Meyer-Vax’s Lautenspielerin (Lute Player).
